Man Accidentally Shoots Friend in Leg in Fenton Apartment
Police said a Fort Wayne man reported he was showing a friend his pistol and was attempting to unload the weapon when he apparently pulled the trigger.
Fenton Police arrested a man on possession of a weapon while intoxicated causing an injury charges after he accidentally shot his friend in the leg Thursday.
Fenton Police Chief Rick Aro said police responded to a 911 call around 12:20 a.m. Jan. 10 on the 1100 block of Poplar Street after the caller said he had shot his friend while unloading a pistol.
Aro said a 22-year-old Fort Wayne man reported he was showing a friend his .45 caliber pistol and was attempting to unload the weapon when he apparently pulled the trigger and shot a 21-year-old Fenton resident in the left calf. Rescue crews transported the Fenton man to the hospital for treatment.
Police officers noticed several liquor bottles in the home and Aro said the Fort Wayne man admitted the two had been drinking during the evening. He was then arrested on possession of a weapon while intoxicated causing an injury charges and held at the Fenton Police Department.
"We are positive there was no confrontation. It was accidental," Aro said.
The case will be forwarded to the Genesee County Prosecutor's office, he added.

If there is a loophole in current gun laws, it might be this; anybody who has proven he is over 21, isn't a criminal and hasn't been treated for being mentally imbalanced can purchase, without proof of a single safety class. Add a little alcohol to that, and someone can get shot in the calf, or worse. This is irresponsibility at its finest....

Hey everyone, I am the guy that got shot in the leg. Here is the whole story. The shooter is marine, and highly trained with firearms. We are close friends, and we were trying to have a fun evening before he went back to base the next day. The "liquor bottles" that were left out were actually liqueur bottles that had been used to make ONE cocktail for each of us. We had stopped drinking the cocktails hours before the accident, and he was sipping on a beer at the time. Were there mistakes made? Obviously. Were we shitfaced and playing with guns? Absolutely not. Don't draw conlcusions without hearing the entire story.

I think this article lacks several key points. Did the shooter just stand there and cry or did he spring into action like a true man of honor and instantly treat his friends gunshot wound so well that when the police arrived they rendered no first aid?
Was this guy a war hero? Had he shot people before? And more importantly, why was there a bloody handprint on the fridge door? The victim certainly didn't drink that last beer. Perhaps it was one of the paramedics. One thing is for sure though, potato chips and firearms just don't mix!
