New Country Music Show to Air on Fenton Radio Station

Darcy Day will broadcast Classic Country and More in honor of her father, Detroit radio legend Deano Day.

A brand new “Day” is dawning on the local radio dial, as Darcy Day returns to the air with the “Classic Country and More" program starting at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 10. The show will be broadcast on 15130 North Road in Fenton and streamed online at www.wcxiradio.com.

The first edition of the weekly three-hour show will originate from Sylvia Jo’s Wagon Wheel in Flint, and celebrate the life of Day’s father, legendary country music radio personality Deano Day. The younger Day chose the date and location for her first broadcast for sentimental reasons.

“This was the last location Dad and I did a radio show from, so it’s the perfect place to kick off my new program,” Day said. “April 10th is the second anniversary of his passing. I can’t think of a more appropriate way to remember him than to do the first show with him in mind and let his fans be a part of it.”

Deano Day was an award-winning radio personality best known for his stints at former Detroit radio stations WDEE (1500 AM) and WCXI (1130 AM) in the 1970s and 1980s. He endeared himself to his listeners - affectionately known as “ding-a-lings” - and was a driving force behind the popularity of the country format in southeastern Michigan.

“Uncle Deano” died in 2009.
