Crime Report: Police Arrest Man For Breaking and Entering

The following arrest information was supplied by the Fenton Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction

arrested a man they believe is responsible for breaking and entering into a home on the 1800 block of Oak Park Drive in Fenton on July 19.

Police received a call from a resident who had been asked by the homeowner to watch over the residence while they were out of state. The resident told police he had not visited the house for a couple weeks and then found the rear window broken and the back door open.

The resident found the owner's washer and dryer to be missing as well as a four-wheeler, truck tires and an air compressor the resident was storing in the garage, said Fenton Police Chief Rick Aro.

Police said they talked to neighbors who said they saw a suspicious blue Ford Explorer at the residence that week and reported the vehicle was also parked at the nearby Walnut Grove Apartments.

Aro said an officer found the owner of the vehicle and, based on an interview, the officer said he believed the man to be responsible for the break-in.

Police arrested the 23-year-old Fenton resident and took him to the police department where detectives, who believed he was responsible for other recent break-ins as well, interviewed him.

Aro said police were able to recover the washer and dryer, four wheeler and tires, as well as other stolen property from other break-ins.

The incident is still under investigation.

Underage drinking

Police received a tip about three people in a vacant trailer around 3:25 p.m. on July 19 on the 1000 block of Shummard Branch.

Aro said the officer found three teenagers consuming alcohol at he location.

The three Fenton residents, 16 and 17-year-old females and a 16-year-old male were ticketed for consuming alcohol under the age of 21 and released to their parents pending probate court.

Larceny of gas

On July 16, Fenton police received a call reporting a theft of gas from the Marathon gas station, 1375 North LeRoy St .

Employees reported a silver Ford Focus had pulled up on two occasions and drove away without paying for gas. Employees reported it occurred on July 14 with $16 of gas and on July 16 with $43 of gas.

Accoring to the report, police were able to obtain the registration number, which was registered to  a resident of Norton Shores (near Muskegon).

Police are attempting to contact the individual and the case remains under investigation.

Burning ban

The City of Fenton Fire Department has issued a burning ban on all fires (including recreational) inside the city limits until further notice. The extreme heat and extremely dry conditions do not permit safe burning at this time.  The burn ban goes into effect July 21 and will be in place until conditions improve.
