Police Blotter: Retail Fraud, Breaking and Entering

Here is a look at city of Fenton police action from May 19 to May 25.

Police are investigating a case of reported retail fraud, which occurred on May 23 and 24 at , 18000 Silver Lake Road in Fenton.

 Chief Rick Aro said loss prevention employees reported noticing several bottles of liquor missing from the shelves and review surveillance footage.

Aro said the store employees reported seeing a person they recognized from other thefts, conceal a bottle of liquor and leave the store without paying. Aro said the store employees said the suspects made several similar trips into the store during the two days.

The store contacted police around noon on May 24 when the suspect once again entered the store and attempted to conceal a liquor bottle and exit the store.

Aro said the 29-year-old Fenton man was met by police and was arrested on charges of retail fraud.

Breaking and entering

Police are investigating a reported breaking and entering incident that occurred around 2:40 a.m. on May 19.

Aro said a homeowner on the 600 block of North Adelaide Street reported hearing a loud nice in his basement while he was in the kitchen and then saw a man run past him before exiting the residence.

Aro said the homeowner followed the man and confronted him. Aro said the homeowner reported the man told him he was dropped off and was looking to steal electronics to help pay off drug money he owed. The homeowner then checked the man’s backpack, which had none of the homeowner’s property.

Aro said the homeowner then said he went back inside to call police, while the suspect fled.

Police have interviewed one suspect in the case, but charges are not being sought yet, Aro said.

Fraudulent debit card charges

A 49-year-old Fenton woman reported to police that several fraudulent transactions were made on her debit card on May 23.

Aro said the woman reported 16 transactions totaling nearly $1,200 were put on the card.

The charges came from outside of Fenton, Aro said.

Police have no suspects.
