Violence Surrounds Fenton

A shooting occurs in Holly Township, while Flint is ranked as the most violent city in the nation.

There haven’t been any violent crimes reported in Fenton lately, and the city doesn't rank high on the list of dangerous places.

But that doesn't mean violence isn't nearby.

On Monday, the reported that a Tyrone Township man was shot in the neck around 5:30 p.m. Saturday in a field near North Holly and Elliot roads in Holly Township. The article stated there were four individuals involved in an altercation before a Rose Township man allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot the Tyrone Township man.

The Holly Express reported the 26-year-old Tyrone Township man is in stable condition.

That was not the only violence of that past month, however.

Last week, the Holly Express reported that a Holly business owner was mugged and robbed.

Violence also ocurs frequently not far north of Fenton.

While Fenton had just 15 violent crimes in 2010, according to FBI statistics, incidents are much higher in Flint.

The Flint Journal reports Flint is the most violent city in the nation, with 22 violent crimes per 100 residents, slightly higher than second-place Detroit. According to FBI statistics, Flint had 2,412 violent crimes, including 53 murders and 92 forcible rapes in 2010.

  • 12 aggravated assaults
  • 325 property crimes
  • 38 burglaries
  • 268 larcenies/thefts
  • 19 Vehicle thefts
  • 0 arsons

Holly had 13 violent crimes reported in 2010 and Linden had one.
