77-Year-Old Greets Voters with Smile in Fenton

If you voted in the city of Fenton Tuesday, you were likely greeted by the friendly face of Stanley Young directing you to correct precinct line.

Young, 77, one of the Election Chairman, was a big part of the short wait times and the hassle free voting experience at the St. John Activity Center.

"I do it for the money," joked Young, who has been a election worker for 25 years. "They give me $8 an hour for 12 hours. Plus we get free donuts."

There were five precinct lines at the St. John Activity Center and Young kept the lines move by telling people, "Against the wall, ladies" or "look right there, they are waiting for you."

"He was great," Fenton resident Michael Henk said. "Made everybody laugh as we went through."

"He was so friendly, cheerful and thanked me for coming out to vote," Breanne Clark said. "I'd say he made my experience fun!"

If people didn't know what precinct they were in, Young studied a map with voters to find out. And if Young saw people changing lines, he asked if he sent them the wrong way.

"We don't make mistakes," he joked. "We just send people to the wrong spot."

Young said the day had run very smooth and he was enjoying himself. He said the morning was a "little hectic" and he gets a little tired as the night goes on.

"I get to talk to a lot of people. It's a lot of fun, except for 6, 7, 8 and 9," Young joked.
