Fenton Community & Cultural Center to Host Groundbreaking Ceremony

The event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17th at the south end of the Center.

Fenton Mayor Sue Osborn, Community Center Board of Governors Chairman Doran Kasper and DDA Chairman Craig Schmidt jointly announced a groundbreaking ceremony for the flrst phase of the expansion of the Fenton Community & Cultural Center.

“This is a wonderful project,” said Mayor Sue Osborn. “We look forward to a project that  will provide handicapped accessibility and an addition that will enhance the arts and  culture experience for the entire community.”

The event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17th at the south end of the Center.

The initial phase of the combined renovation/addition will cost $2 million. The addition  will include two studios dedicated to arts and culture. Also included in the project, Will  be improved handicapped accessibility to the building and restroom facilities. With a  major investment from the City of Fenton DDA, a federal block grant for the elevator and  money secured from earlier fundraising efforts, a total of $1.4 million has been secured to date.

Community residents are invited to attend the ceremony to witness the event. It
is envisioned that the additional facilities for the arts and culture Will facilitate an  expanded use ofthe Center for arts events and programs.

City Council member and former Fenton Mayor Pat Lockwood and retired Fenton
Schools Superintendent Bob Burek will chair the fundraising effort to secure the
$600,000 necessary for completion of the first phase of the project and hopefully, additional money for enhancement of the proposed new facility.
