Fenton Township Election Nets Few Changes

There likely won't be many changes on the Fenton Township board when the current terms expire.

Incumbents dominated Tuesday's primary ballot as Fenton Township Clerk Bob Krug and trustee incumbents , ,and all came out on top. Incumbent Republican Fenton Township supervisor Bonnie Mathis and Republican treasurer John Tucker both ran unopposed.

However, one new face will likely be Shaun Shumaker, who was one of five republican candidates vying for four trustee spots for a four-year term on the Fenton Township board. There were no Democrats listed on the ballot.

"I am very pleased the Fenton voters added me to such a wonderful board," Shumaker said.

With all six precincts reporting, incumbent Kesler led the way with 466 votes (21.94 percent), followed by Shumaker with 423 votes (19.92 percent), Lorraine with 422 (19.81 percent) and Goupil with 411 votes (19.35 percent). The odd man out was Marko, who is currently serving on Fenton Township Zoning Board of Appeals, as he had 396 votes (18.64 percent).

Shumaker spoke highly of the board and is eager to join them.

"I think they work well together," he said. "They have good camaraderie. They are more than just working parts. They fit together and care about what is best for the town and I think people see that.

"I now feel it’s time I bring my energy, talents, and fresh perspective to the Fenton Township Board. With support of the voters in Fenton Township, I will be proud to serve our community as their trustee."

(412 votes) beat out challenger (276 votes) for a four-year term as Fenton Township Clerk. There were no Democrats listed on the ballot.

Krug has served on the board for 12 years and plans to continue providing leadership for Fenton Township.

"With falling revenues, we must continue to maintain a balanced budget.  This must take place while providing a safe community and the services desired to maintain our chosen way of life," Krug said.
