Another Threat Reaches Area School

Not even a week after Hartland Schools were closed because of a perceived threat, a Holly teen has been arrested for sending threatening messages.

On Saturday, the Holly Police Department received information about a 17-year-old Holly Resident sending some threatening messages about what he might do to people at the Holly Middle School on Monday, according to a press release from Village of Holly Police Chief, Elena Danishevskaya.

Police said the suspect also warned his friends who go to the Holly Middle school not to go to school on Monday, because he doesn’t want them to get hurt.

According to the release, officers developed information that the suspect had threatened to shoot up a school in the past and had the means to do so at that time. It is believed that the suspect threatened to do the same thing at the Holly Middle School as he threatened to do at the other school, police said.

Holly officers were able to locate the suspect on Sunday and the teen is in custody pending charges from the Oakland County Prosecutors office, police stated.

Holly Area Schools Superintendent Barnes was made aware of the threat, the release stated. On Monday, officers from the Holly Police Department were present at the Holly Middle School to ensure everyone was safe and secure.

The press release stated that Holly Police Department wanted to remind all parents to speak to their children that if they hear any threats against the school or individual to report it immediately.

The teen admitted that he did make the threats last week, but claimed it was a joke between friends. The messages, according to Livingston County Sheriff Bob Bezotte, that referenced words such as , went viral Monday night creating a panic among parents and students.

We would like to stress that you have conversations with your children about the proper and safe use of social media as well as the impact that poor decisions have on an individual and the entire family. District personnel are confident that the safety and security of students attending Hartland High School were never compromised.
