Fenton Middle Schoolers Make Valentine's Day Cards for Veterans

teacher Cathryn Walden collects stickers, sparkles, lace and anything else her students can use for Valentine's Day Cards all year long.

Sure, she likes the holiday, but she likes the reasons why the students make the cards and where they end up even more.

Walden is one of several teachers at the school to have students create Valentine's Day cards, which are given to Fenton VFW Post 3243 officials and taken to the veterans hospital in Ann Arbor.

"I love it," Walden said. "My dad is a World War II veteran. My son is in the military. My husband is a veteran. I was a military wife for many years."

She has the students write poems and short notes to the veterans to thank them for their service. The school sends out around 200 cards.

Collin Furay, a sixth-grade student, wrote thank you to the troops on his card.

"I think they will be glad," he said.
