First Presbyterian Changes Worship Schedule

Because of it building renovation project, the First Presbyterian Church of Fenton will begin conducting one Sunday morning worship service starting this Sunday, May 16th.  That service will begin at 10 a.m.  Church School for preschoolers and children will also be held at the same time.  The church, located at 503 S. Leroy,  will maintain this schedule until the renovation/expansion work is completed in the fall.  Demolition and construction are slated to start sometime during the next week or two.

In addition, the church office will be relocated within the building.  Those seeking to do church business will need to use one of the front entrances once construction begins.

Kettering University Offering Sustainable Energy Pre-College Program

Students in 9th-12th grades have the opportunity to ‘Get Energized!’ and gain knowledge in one of the fastest growing industries in the country during a Sustainable Energy Pre-College Program in June at Kettering University.

The program will have two sessions. The first, for 9th and 10th grade students (must have completed eighth grade by June), will be June 13-17. The second, for 11th and 12th grade students (must have completed 10th grade by June), will be June 20-24.

Students in the program will learn how biogas and nuclear power are produced, how fuel cells work and can be used to power homes, cars and buses, how to build a fuel cell car and wind turbine from a kit and how solar, hydro and wind power can be used.

Here is the class list for the program: The Importance of Sustainable Energy; Biogas Generation and Utilization; Nuclear Energy; Biofuels; Geo-Hydro Energy; Energy Conservation; Fuel Cells/Hydrogen Safety; How to Build a Fuel Cell Car; Solar and Wind Energy; Stirling Engines; Lithium-Ion Batteries. Students will get hands-on experience in Kettering’s labs, will go on a field trip and will be taught by the university’s faculty and staff.

They also must submit two letters of recommendation (from math or science teachers) and pay the program fee of $150. Students also must have transportation to and from Kettering University each day. The application deadline is Friday, June 3. Application materials can be mailed to:

Fenton Athletic Department Hosting 5K, Hoedown

The Athletic Department is hoping to raise funds with two upcoming events.

They will host the Fenton Area Public Schools 5K Run and Walk at 9 a.m. May 21. The racer fee is $20, which includes a T-shirt and refreshments after the race. Attached is the race registration form. The school will also put on a Hoedown from 3 to 7 p.m. May 21 at the Fenton High School.

There will be carnival games, pig roast and family activities. Tickets are $9 for adults, $5 for students and free for children 5 and under. A family of four can enter for $25, which each additional person for $4.
